Like direct mail marketing, Twitter can be an effective tool to help drive web traffic: But, Twitter is also great for testing the effectiveness of web page copy and improving search results on Google.
Buying a direct mail list is quick and easy, where building a targeted following on Twitter takes time and effort. We have found that it requires about an hour a day to build your Twitter following. We have also found that Twitter accounts need 1,000+ followers before clicks become reliable. Therefore, Small Business folks are likely to get frustrated with the process before they begin to see any ROI.
Effective direct mail marketing requires you manage your list, weeding out the bad addresses and adding new targeted addresses. We much manage our follower list in Twitter too.
With direct mail, when you are ready to send a new message, you pay for more postage and possibly another rental fee to the mail list provider. With Twitter, you can resend messages several times per day with out any additional cost.
Using a url shortening tool, like Cli.gs, you can see the number of clicks. Using Google analytics, you can measure the effectiveness of your page copy by seeing how long Twitter visitors stay on site.
If your business has been avoiding Twitter because you felt it was just a social network toy, we suggest you create your new account today and start down the path of building your following. We believe you will see the effectiveness of Twitter and more than likely save your direct mail marketing budget for other critical business needs!

I have to disagree. direct mail has the advantage of supplying you with people who have actually purchased or shown some real world inclination to buy products. But only if you rent a decent list.
Ed’s services are fantastic!!! He promised to provide 1,000 followers on twitter within 30 days and he delivered 3,000 followers. I like getting three times the value without any additional charges. This is the way to build a business Twitter account!
